Celware WebRecorder

The World Wide Web was design to make information readily available. However the main format used, the HyperText Markup Language or HTML, is designed to present this information to people, not computers. The web has provided tons of benefits in making information more accessible, but on the other hand has people manually accessing information. These manual touch points slow down business processes and cost money.

Celware WebRecorder rapidly and easily exposes information on existing Web sites to other IT systems via a programmatic service, using the same interface as a standard Web browser. If you can see the information on the Web, Celware WebRecorder can learn by example and create a service to include that information in your IT environment—without making any changes to the Web server! With Celware WebRecorder, you are now able to easily create services to systematically read, update or publish information on ASP-hosted system, customer, supplier, partner, and third party information provider Web sites. WebRecorder enables your business to have and share the information it requires to operate efficiently. You can download an evaluation copy of WebRecorder.

How It Works

Celcorp’s WebRecorder is designed to learn and capture user navigation, entry and retrieval of information from a Web site. Simply by using an existing Web site, WebRecorder will capture and learn from the dialog between the Web browser and the Web site:.

  • Navigation: How a user triggers navigation between pages of a Web site.
  • Information access: Where and how the user enters data, and in what associated format.
  • Actions: What interaction occurs, and how a user interacts with the site.

WebRecorder combines this learning into a model that is used to perform:

  • Modeling: Models contain the data driven to and returned from the Web site.
  • Mapping and Transformation: Leveraging the data model, the business analyst can map and transform data into a business process data model.
  • Expressions and Logic: Expressions and logic are built into WebRecorder to allow the analyst to build and control how data is extracted, transformed and mapped in the macro business process.

Key Features

  1. Learn by Example Recording – Celware WebRecorder captures knowledge when a user follows the steps required to access information. Variables are generated and then associated with information on the page by pointing and clicking, for a rapid and intuitive extraction process that is significantly faster and more reliable than custom scripts or code.
  2. Robust Support for Secure Web Sites – Celware WebRecorder supports SSL based sites, proxy servers and a variety of different authentication methods, enabling you to read, update or publish information from secure sites.
  3. Filters to Simplify Web Content for Extraction – One of the biggest challenges to creating solutions for extracting information from Web sites is the complexity of the HTML for most pages. Much of this complexity results from graphics tags and formatting. Celware WebRecorder’s “Tidy” function enables you to easily simplify the HTML by filtering out unnecessary structures and tags. Not only does this make extractions easier, it results in a deployed solution that is more resilient to changes on Web pages.
  4. Web Services Capabilities – Celware WebRecorder can be invoked via a Web service, simplifying the process for sharing information with your external systems. Celware WebRecorder can even publish WAR files for inclusion within your application server architecture. Now, you can easily turn any existing Web site into a Web service—without requiring administrative access and without making any changes to the Web server!
  5. Flexible Architecture – In addition to Web services, Celware WebRecorder can be invoked via Java or COM. Celware WebRecorder is available on multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux and Sun Solaris.
